Artists From Stockholm
The Alloy Six – Formed by members of quintessential psychedelic garage rockers, The Moving Sounds and The Fourtune-Tellers, The Alloy Six play rock n’ roll influenced by the late ‘60s and early ‘70s music scene. Fuelled by Hammond organ and 12-string guitar, along with razor sharp distortion, solid drumming and spot-on bass, their sound will be an instant hit with fans of artists such as The Doors, The Electric Prunes, and 13th Floor Elevators! Their new album, Delicate Days, is out now on Beluga Records!
The Beautiful Art of Decay – Influenced by The Velvet Underground, The Stooges, and Ziggy Stardust era Bowie, this Stockholm quintet are “the other ones…the ones on the other side of the street…the ones your mother warned you about”…in other words, they write and play great rock n’ roll. Check out their We Are The Other Ones EP to see and hear what we mean! Their next EP is being launched one song at a time on their Soundcloud and Spotify pages…check back often to hear them all!
Janne Borgh Fanclub – Whether solo or in any of his band incarnations, Borgh certainly knows his way around a great melody and a catchy hook! He was a member of the first Swedish mod-revival band, The Moderns, who released an album on EMI-Parlophone and toured the UK with Echo & The Bunnymen in 1980. Fans of classic power pop and Americana bands – from The Beatles, Badfinger, and Big Star to The Records, The Replacements, Tom Petty and Cheap Trick – will love his new rockin’ outfit and their brand new 7” vinyl EP, Post Modern!
Celebrate the Sun – They’re back for their second year in a row at IPO Stockholm, having previously played IPO Liverpool back in 2006 while living in the UK, and we’re thrilled to have them! They deliver driving indie rock songs that retain a pop ethic of hooks and harmonies. Their debut self-titled CD has earned comparisons to both The Beatles and Coldplay!
The Dave Park Five – A Stockholm supergroup formed by members of Baby Said Yeah!, First Cab, Donvan’s Brain, Elvert Under-Ground, and A Padded Room, who combined forces to honour the memory of their friend David Parkin, who played in all of these bands, but sadly succumbed to cancer in the fall of 2020. The result is an outpouring of intricately arranged, hooky and harmonious guitar pop. A must-see band for any fan of Scandinavian pop!!
Dinky Diamonds – A new band whose members have long been fixtures on Stockholm’s punk/rock/pop scene appearing in bands such as Blasting Fondas. The Renegates, The Repeatles, and Love Junkies. Their sound is pure power pop: infused with vibrant melodies and rich harmonies influenced by the music of the ‘60s and ‘70s without succumbing to nostalgia. Their energetic live performances have earned standing ovations, and we can hardly wait to see and hear them do their thing at IPO!
The Greeting – One of the many projects of Richard Öhrn, guitarist for Uppsala jangle pop darlings, In Deed, who played IPOs Liverpool and Stockholm in 2018. Think big guitars, big melodies, and catchy choruses with a few surprising twists and turns, with nods to punk, Britpop, and of course, powerpop. Or better yet, check out their brand-new full-length album, Request An Audience, and their IPO showcase.
La Paz – Deep, dark, and intense, while retaining an uplifting folk pop sense of melodicism: This is La Paz, a three guy/one gal prog pop outfit from Stockholm. Imagine Stevie Nicks fronting Rush, and you almost get the picture…or better yet, just check out their EP, First, and come to their IPO showcase to see and hear them for yourself!
Log Island – Their name is a loose translation of Stockholm into English, and their music reflects both their roots in Stockholm’s vibrant music scene and their American music influences. Their recent digital single, “Sister Death,” brings together psychedelic jangle, indie rock quirkiness, power pop hooks, and a laid-back grunge vibe. Looking forward to hearing more from this band!
The Maharajas – Do you like rock n’ roll? ‘60s garage? Maybe some wild guitars? Demented bass runs?! Snotty vocals, tambourine, drums and a cowbell? Folk-rock and wimpy organ ballads? Did we mention fuzz guitars? It’s infectious and addictive and makes you wanna drink, dance and holler. Their latest album, Ride The Wylde Mammoths, honors the late Peter Maniette, a master of the genre, who passed away in April 2023 via electric covers of classic Wylde Mammoths tracks. Check it out, along with any of their many original released and their IPO showcase, and you’ll quickly understand why these guys have been one of our favorite Swedish bands for many years!
Gustav Nilsson (of Rooni) – The main man from one of our favourite Stockholm bands to have played the festival in both Liverpool and Stockholm is stepping out on his own! Nilsson is master craftsman when it comes to writing insanely catchy power pop songs with a touch of modern indie-rock or bubblegum/glam circa 1972, as evidenced by Rooni’s recent singles, one of which, Paul Stanley, made the top 40 on Alicante Live Music, alongside entries from the likes of Belle & Sebastian and Two Door Cinema Club. We can’t wait to see and hear what he does in his first IPO showcase under his own name!
Noise Detectors – A supergroup featuring members of Eager Beaver, The Joints, The Piltdown 5, and Stupidity, you can be sure they will make a joyous noise to put a smile on your face and set your feet dancing. Their sound is a mix of power pop hooks and mod-punk energy, with a bit of soul and ska thrown in for good measure! Check out their Six by Four EP and more recent digital singles, or better yet, come see and hear them do their thing live at IPO…and keep an eye out for a new full length album due out later this year!!
Jonathan Segel – Segel is best known in indie pop circles as the violinist and guitarist in Camper von Beethoven, but throughout his over quarter century with the band, he has continued to make his own records in a variety of genres ranging from guitar-based rock music to way-avant-garde electronic music and many places in between. His latest release is a concept EP called Hall of Mirrors. Anyone who can appreciate a beautiful melody – whether delivered in new age, psychedelic, prog, or rock style – will dig it!
Slim Loris – This Stockholm-based quartet blends modern Indie and ‘60s/’70s-inflected Pop/Rock with Americana and a pinch of Swedish melancholy. They “… create beautiful, melodic songs with emotional vocals that address love, inner tranquility and consciousness, and possess a charismatic singer capable of captivating any fan of Indie music”. (mostdef.blogspot.se) Their latest full-length album, Red Loris Yellow Loris, “…is a blend of new rock, old pop and ‘70s vibe sounds. It comes to us so clear and devoid of any profound drive. The album doesn’t feel like it is pining for money or attention. Quite the opposite. [It] feels as if it is happy in its own little rocking world. It’s making its own music, for its own pleasure. We’re just lucky enough to listen” (TJPL News).
Small Imperfections – Any project led by the great Magnus Karlsson (also of happydeadmen, The Charade, and The Britannicas) is bound to be full of jangly poppy goodness, and Small Imperfections do not disappoint! He’s joined by a cadre of popmeisters consisting of Stephan Johansson, Daniel Westlund, Christian Granquist, and Tove Hellerup, and together they make a joyous noise that fans of ‘80s Swedish pop and Brit pop will love! Their brand new single, “Don’t Look Back,” and their IPO showcase offer a hint of what we can expect to hear on their soon to be released album, Last Night in Sweden. We can hardly wait!!
The Trenchmen – If Düsseldorf was a city in British Columbia, its soundtrack would be played by The Trenchmen. Electric americana with a steady beat. You will hear beautiful melodies, dynamic guitar riffs and a drummer who never tires of keeping it real.
The Underwhelmed – An acoustic duo who blend classic influences such as Neil Young and Simon & Garfunkel with an indie rock edge to create something all their own on their recently released Edge Of Breakup album. “Two men with guitars might not be the hippest thing in 2025, but who cares…With strong songs, good vocals and enough small musical additions to the guitars, it manages to keep you interested all the way…Rooted in heartland music, it is also infested with a Nordic melancholy and a quite European feeling as well. It sounds as much as a Slovenian highway in a drizzling rain as a field in some American Midwest state” (Johan Erikson review).
Lisa Wermelin – Constantly having a soundtrack in the background to her life, Wermelin wants to make music that deeply connects with the listener. This she does with a combination of folk meets power pop melodies and clear vocals that fans of artists such as Carly Simon, Carole King, and Joni Mitchell will be sure to appreciate. Her latest release, Songs From The Other Side, is her first in collaboration with Eliot Wilder of The Revenants, and is available on many fine streaming platforms.
International Artists
Falling Doves – Main man Christopher Leyva has delighted the crowds at past IPOs in Liverpool and San Diego, as well as in his home-base of LA, with his engaging songs and equally engaging stories between them, so we’re very much looking forward to seeing and hearing him rock again with the full band at IPO Stockholm! Falling Doves’ music is fueled with heart-pumping, fast-paced, guitar-driven anthems typically reserved for the grand finale of an unforgettable rock festival. Blending the stadium-sized glamour of Britpop like Oasis and the Rolling Stones with the raw power of American rock ‘n’ roll like Guns ‘N’ Roses and Aerosmith, the Doves have established their own original sound blending the richest of rock traditions with original and innovative musical expressions on their many recent albums, singles, and EPs.
The Forever Now – Combining cinematic elements with indie rock, synth-pop, and singer-songwriter music, Copenhagen-based The Forever Now carve out a filmic experience with each release. The project has often drawn comparisons to artists such as M83, The Naked And Famous, MGMT, CHVRCHES, and Oh Wonder. The Revue described their work as: “Incredibly beautiful. It is part cinematic, part cosmic, part operatic, and completely dazzling.” Check out their latest EP, Grounded Satellites, and their IPO showcase to see and hear them for yourself!
Thom Hell – A Norwegian singer/ songwriter/ musician/ producer and Norwegian Grammy winner (Best Male Artist and Best Pop Composer for his 2008 Norwegian Top 5 Album, God If I Saw Her Now, and Best Male Artist for his 2010 album, All Good Things). He cites Paul McCartney, The Beach Boys, Pink Floyd, Genesis and Neil Young as influences and these influences, plus bits of prog pop or more modern composers, such as Jason Falkner – with whom he worked on two of his more recent albums, shine through in his songs. His thirteenth studio album, Candy, was released earlier this year, and we are thrilled to welcome him and his captivating pop songs to IPO Stockholm!
Matt Purcell – Purcell had played in a number of bands in his former home of Sydney, Australia, including his ‘90s project, Clover, with whom he played a reunion show at IPO Liverpool in 2023 to celebrate the release of their overdue debut album, Over & Over, before stepping out under his own name and relocating to Ireland, where he now makes his home in Nanegh. His debut solo album, Silver Man, combined influences from folk-rock to power pop and is appreciated by fans of Wilco, Big Star, and traditional Irish folk, receiving favourable reviews by Hotpress Magazine for the debut single from the album, “Carry Me Home.” Purcell’s latest album, Message To You, evokes the sound of the great ‘60s beat groups, power pop luminaries, and early Italian rock n’ rollers. A prolific and engaging performer, regardless of what style of pop he happens to be doing!
Thee Strawberry Mynde – This band of North East UK mod/psych/garage poppers have previously supported the likes of The James Taylor Quartet, The Bellrays, The Space Agency, The Godfathers and Galileo 7, and have several singles and EPs to their credit, including their brand new one, Reflections. We think their brand of alternatingly sweet and gruff vocals, soulful guitar riffs, and keyboard-fuelled psychedelic mayhem fits in perfectly at IPO, and look forward to welcoming them this year to both Liverpool and Stockholm!
Turmoil – What started as playing covers at a distance during the pandemic has grown into a rock-solid Netherlands-based Americana band with their own original “Netherlands-icana” songs. Turmoil is very much influenced by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Jason Isbell & 400 Unit and Neil Young. Their recently released debut album, Coming Home, covers a variety of moods through clever use of instrumentation and subtle vocal harmonies, and wraps the listener in a comfy warm melodic blanket.
Zig Zag Road – Formerly known as Cassie, they were regulars on the Isle of Wight gigging circuit back in 1978, when power pop was king. Their only single, “Change My Image”, languished in obscurity until it was discovered and re-released by New York’s Reminder Records to a public yearning for their combination of sweet vocals and punchy guitar jangle…so much so that the band reunited after 40 years, are once again writing and performing their classic catchy power pop, and releasing their first proper album, Back In The Band. With bassist Tim Izzard joining in 2025, the band embraced a new identity: Zig Zag Road — a name with no baggage and plenty of forward motion. They’re back in the studio and writing new songs that we can hardly wait to hear!
