IPO Vol 20 CD Song: “It Had To Be You”
1) What was the reason you chose the song you did for the IPO CD?
“It Had To Be You” is our first single off of our upcoming EP! We’re working with a new producer, getting a strictly pop sound, and we’re so excited to promote this song. We are proud of “It Had To Be You.” We recently filmed a music video for it that will be out when we officially release the single.
2) If you could play your dream gig, which other three to four artists would be on the bill with you? They can be living, defunct, or dead.
Hard question! I guess it depends on the audience. If we want our fans to enjoy the whole show, and know what kind of music they will be getting, we’d have to say Broods (Kiana’s favorite current band) or another band in which we have a similar sound. However, if we are picking our all time favorites for a random, eclectic show, we’d have to say: The Beach Boys, The Beatles and The Head and the Heart.
3) Which artists are you/your band most inspired by?
Well, we are ALWAYS inspired by The Beatles, but I’d say our EP we are working on right now is more pop-inspired by bands like Broods, or Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness.
4) What is your favorite part about playing IPO and/or being on the IPO CD?
We were excited to share the stage, and album, with other up-and-coming pop artists. It’s fun to support each other and cheer each other on.
5) How can people who fall in love with your song on the IPO CD get more of your music and find out about any gigs you’re playing?
First of all, they can sign up for our mailing list on our website: www.kalinaandkiana.com. This has our gig schedule, our music, our videos, and our blogs. We both enjoy blogging on top of everything else! Second of all, they can follow us on social media where they can also hear our music and stay up to date with everything we’re doing: @kalinaandkiana.

IPO Vol 20 CD Song: “I Don’t Know You Now”
1) What was the reason you chose the song you did for the IPO CD?
We wanted to write a song in the spirit of The Beatles, although it probably came out more like The Bangles or The Monkees. We thought “I Don’t Know You Now” was most suited for the IPO CD.
2) If you could play your dream gig, which other three to four artists would be on the bill with you? They can be living, defunct, or dead.
The Cars, Blondie, Fountains of Wayne…and Cher!
3) Which artists are you/your band most inspired by?
After 30 minutes of debate we’ve decided on Rick Springfield with his shirt off. =)
4) What is your favorite part about playing IPO and/or being on the IPO CD?
The sense of community among power pop fans and the shared support. The IPO CD helps us discover great bands from all over the world. We’re perpetual fans!

IPO Vol 20 CD Song: “Kiss My Wife”
1) What was the reason you chose the song you did for the IPO CD?
The song, “Kiss My Wife”, means a lot to me and I wanted to give it the best platform for release as a stand-alone song. I know how many ears would be able to hear it if I put it on the IPO CD, so I worked hard to get it done in time. I feel like I reached a new level in recording and performance on this one as well, so I was thrilled to get it out there!
2) If you could play your dream gig, which other three to four artists would be on the bill with you? They can be living, defunct, or dead.
Well, at the risk of having folks on the bill who would blow me away, I would love to play on the same night and stage as these artists, mostly so I could get a chance to meet them backstage!
1. Juliana Hatfield
2. Paul Westerberg
3. Lloyd Cole
4. Marshall Crenshaw
3) Which artists are you/your band most inspired by?
Given that inspiration is different from *influence*, I would say:
1. Joni Mitchell
2. Miles Davis
3. Richard Strauss
4) What is your favorite part about playing IPO and/or being on the IPO CD?
The camaraderie of the IPO artists is my favorite part. Where else can you find so many like-minded musicians in one place? And of course the relentless positivity and unwavering support of David Bash!
