Artists From Phoenix

Cait Brennan – A singer songwriter with a unique brand of glitter glam soulful rock n’ roll sung straight from the heart. Plus, you gotta love anyone who can channel Roy Orbison, Elton John, Freddy Mercury, John Lennon, and Etta James in the space of a single set! Her recent two-night sold-out concert performance at Arizona’s Tempe Center for the Arts was filmed for public television’s Emmy® nominated “Songwriters Showcase” series, airing on PBS stations, Tempe 11 and now on YouTube!

Marvin Leo Forte – Anyone who cites influences like The Beatles, Badfinger, Del Amitri, Matthew Sweet, The Shins and XTC has definitely got it going on, and Forte lives up to the billing as he brings some sweet (no pun intended) power pop with a bit of that classic Arizona inflection! Gorgeous stuff!

Green Line Operator – A band who combine an exuberant live show with great songs that draw you in! Mitchell Hillman of Java Magazine called their debut, Sixteen Ounce World, “…simply pure delight to both my ears and my soul….”, and their recent Monster EP picks up in similar vein…check them out now!

The Hill In Mind – The Hill in Mind are five folks who perform original music. Sometimes sounding like an angry dumpster band, a group of Qawwali Screamers, or an action movie in slow motion, THiM seeks to roll you down a hill of sound (without breaking your crown). Their dramatic melodies and chord changes transcend genre definition!

Huckleberry – Their songs combine desert alt-rock with classic American harmony pop to form a beautiful breezy brew that is all their own. Their latest opus, Fine Highway, is an excellent choice as the soundtrack to your next road trip!

Lemon Krayola – Fans of No Doubt, Blondie, Zero Zero, and other bands featuring super sticky pop hooks and a powerhouse female lead singer, will surely appreciate Lemon Krayola, who follow in similar tradition. With over 1,500 shows under their belt since the ‘90s, they’re at it again! Check out their new EP, The First Time, and their IPO showcase!

Ed Masley (of The Breakup Society) – If you like Elvis Costello, The Replacements, The Beatles, or Cheap Trick (and what self-respecting powerpop fan doesn’t ?!), then you will love The Breakup Society! Their brand new third album, So Much Unhappiness, So Little Time…, will appeal to long-time fans and new converts alike. IPO is proud to present a solo showcase by the main man of one of the Phoenix area’s most respected powerpop bands!

The Naked Chollas – If you long for the heyday of a real band that plays real instruments that can sing and actually have melody and some killer harmonies then you need to listen no further then the Chollas. Their critically acclaimed 1998 Let’s Go! CD is considered by many to be a desert powerpop classic, and we at IPO are thrilled that they’re reformed and back at doing their thing – and they can still do it better than just about anyone!

Carol Pacey and The Honey Shakers – Originally from the East Coast, Pacey moved out west and became enamored with what Arizona and Mexico had to offer. Her uncommonly upbeat songs blend Americana’s mix of folk, alt-country and rock and roll, with a touch of the desert rock style of her adopted home. She brings it all to her shows with enthusiasm, ease and pure joy, so come check her out now!

Rough Tough Dynamite – A quartet from Tempe who combine pop-punk, surf, and classic rock n’ roll with a spirit of having fun in all they do. Their playful lyrics will also appeal to fans of Talking Heads, Frank Zappa, and They Might Be Giants. Check out their End Of The World EP, and hear for yourself!

Russian Arms and Optics – Creating upbeat indie-rock with a mix of dance and pop sensibility, the band creates heavy hooks that will get stuck in your head long after your first listen. Their debut EP, So Close Yet So Foreign, mixes indie/dance/pop with organ and synth sounds hanging in the backgrounds that fans of The Yeah Yeah Yeahs or The Sounds will be sure to appreciate.

Serene Dominic – He may be known in Phoenix pop circles as a music journalist, but Serene Dominic’s combination of gentle Beatle-esque melodies and quirky inventive touches make him a worthy subject as a musician and songwriter in his own right! His latest album, For Your Extreme Convenience, is finished and soon to be released, but you can get a preview hearing of the songs – sung in his inimitable style with an undeniable joy and passion – at his IPO showcase, so check him out!
