Artists From Stockholm
The Alloy Six – Formed by members of quintessential psychedelic garage rockers, The Moving Sounds and The Fourtune-Tellers, The Alloy Six play rock n’ roll influenced by the late ‘60s and early ‘70s music scene. Fuelled by Hammond organ and 12-string guitar, along with razor sharp distortion, solid drumming and spot-on bass, their sound will be an instant hit with fans of artists such as The Doors, The Electric Prunes, and 13th Floor Elevators! Their latest album, Delicate Days, is out now on Beluga Records, and they’ve begun recording for the next one!
Andreas & Jag – Moody experimental art pop based on classic ‘60s and ‘70s instrumentation, crafted by true artisans under the watchful eye and production skills of Mattias Olssen of Roth Handle studios. The result is mesmerizing!
The Beautiful Art of Decay – Influenced by The Velvet Underground, The Stooges, and Ziggy Stardust era Bowie, this Stockholm quintet are “the other ones…the ones on the other side of the street…the ones your mother warned you about”…in other words, they write and play great rock n’ roll. Check out their We Are The Other Ones EP to see and hear what we mean! Their next EP is being launched one song at a time on their Soundcloud and Spotify pages…check back often to hear them all!
Janne Borgh – Whether solo or in any of his band incarnations, Borgh certainly knows his way around a great melody and a catchy hook! He was a member of the first Swedish mod-revival band, The Moderns, who released an album on EMI-Parlophone and toured the UK with Echo & The Bunnymen in 1980. Fans of classic power pop and Americana bands – from The Beatles, Badfinger, and Big Star to The Records, The Replacements, Tom Petty and Cheap Trick – will love his new rockin’ outfit and their recent album, Poetry, Protest & Popsongs!
Celebrate the Sun – They’re back for their third year in a row at IPO Stockholm, having previously played IPO Liverpool back in 2006 while living in the UK, and we’re thrilled to have them! They deliver driving indie rock songs that retain a pop ethic of hooks and harmonies. Their debut self-titled CD has earned comparisons to both The Beatles and Coldplay!
The Greeting – One of the many projects of Richard Öhrn, guitarist for Uppsala jangle pop darlings, In Deed, who played IPOs Liverpool and Stockholm in 2018. Think big guitars, big melodies, and catchy choruses with a few surprising twists and turns, with nods to punk, Britpop, and of course, powerpop. Or better yet, check out their recent full-length album, Request An Audience, and their IPO showcase.
The Late Arthur – Led by Swedish/American songwriter/producer Henrik Jonzon (of Nervous Nellie), The Late Arthur serves up a messy mix of indie Americana: Melodic, personal, catchy and wrong in the right places. Check out their recent Fairfax Cinema album, and watch for a new one to be released soon!
The Late Lights – Friends and musicians in various bands for many years, the Late Lights are Jesper Klein (vocals, guitar, piano), Joakim Wahlsten (bass guitar), Jonas Mattsson (pedal steele guitar), Peter Eriksson (drums), Olof Svensson (guitar, vocals) and Ervings Znotins (keyboards). They draw their inspiration from various genres, but the foundation of the sound is a melting pot of American style alt country, folk rock and indie rock. The songs are melodic, carefully crafted, sometimes jangly, with a human pulse driven groove. There is sweetness, adventure, melancholy and psychedelic swirl. Who could ask for anything more?
Loewtides – Two colleagues started making music and recorded a few demos. Life happened, and one moved up North, and the other way out East. After a 10-year hiatus, they dusted off those demos, wrote more songs, put a band together and here they are at IPO! The songs are a mixture of folk, indie rock, and a bit of funk and soul. They’re recording for an album, but you can get a sneak preview at IPO.
Log Island – Their name is a loose translation of Stockholm into English, and their music reflects both their roots in Stockholm’s vibrant music scene and their American music influences. Their recent digital single, “Sister Death,” brings together psychedelic jangle, indie rock quirkiness, power pop hooks, and a laid-back grunge vibe. Looking forward to hearing more from this band!
Noise Detectors – A supergroup from Stockholm featuring members of Eager Beaver, The Joints, The Piltdown 5, and Stupidity, you can be sure they will make a joyous noise to put a smile on your face and set your feet dancing. Their sound is a mix of power pop hooks and mod-punk energy, with a bit of soul and ska thrown in for good measure! Check out their Six by Four EP and more recent digital singles, or better yet, come see and hear them do their thing live at IPO…and keep an eye out for a new full-length album due out soon!!
No Wayne – Made up of Kai Granqvist (guitar) and Ilpo Panttila (drums) together with Camilla Rensgård (vocals & guitar) and Göran Gruber (bass), No Wayne delivers contemporary sonic therapy with roots in late 60’s/ early 70’s rock. Their recent Yeah Yeah EP and IPO showcase can’t help but put you in a great mood!
The Plastic Pals – Take the fiery guitars of bands like Television, Flamin’ Groovies and The Dream Syndicate, add a pinch of Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground and a dash of magic melodies with a dark edge. Bring to a boil with a soulful and groovy base of drums and bass. Stir well and season to taste with the finest spices from the legacy of rock ‘n roll – from Hank to Hendrix, from Gram to The Long Ryders, from The Beatles to Alex Chilton, from Townes to Paul K, from Coltrane to Television, and the list goes on. There you have the taste and the sound of these guitar slingers from Stockholm. After laying low for several years, they are back and better than ever! Just check out their recently released Keep It Burning album and IPO showcase to see and hear what we mean. Jangly guitars, hooks, and harmonies galore!
Råttanson – A DIY one-soul garage band playing a blend of garage rock, pub rock, rock, power pop, surf, punk, blues and country. “Over 30 minutes of fast, fuel-driven energy. It’s like The Monkees on acid at rush hour, sucking in some Barracudas along the way and spitting it all out in the name of garage, beat and rock ‘n’ roll. Time for some proper shaking!” (The Garage Club) They’ve also amassed quite a catalog of LPs and EPs on both vinyl and CD over the years, so there’s plenty to choose from if you want to take them home after the show.
Salt Lake Alley – Drawing inspiration from artists such as Felt, Orange Juice, Popsicle and Teenage Fanclub, indie pop band Salt Lake Alley blends jangly guitars, dreamy harmonies, bittersweet melodies and shimmering arrangements. Their brand-new album, Always Out Of Time, is a testament to their mission to craft timeless, melody-forward indie pop that feels both reverent and refreshingly alive.
Jonathan Segel – Segel is best known in indie pop circles as the violinist and guitarist in Camper von Beethoven, but throughout his over quarter century with the band, he has continued to make his own records in a variety of genres ranging from guitar-based rock music to way-avant-garde electronic music and many places in between. His brand-new album, Puzzle World, due to be released officially shortly after his IPO showcase, is a mix of hooky/sometimes dreamy indie rock pieces recorded over several years and places that fit perfectly together.
Slim Loris – This Stockholm-based quartet blends modern Indie and ‘60s/’70s-inflected Pop/Rock with Americana and a pinch of Swedish melancholy. They “… create beautiful, melodic songs with emotional vocals that address love, inner tranquility and consciousness, and possess a charismatic singer capable of captivating any fan of Indie music”. (mostdef.blogspot.se) Their latest full-length album, Red Loris Yellow Loris, “…is a blend of new rock, old pop and ‘70s vibe sounds. It comes to us so clear and devoid of any profound drive. The album doesn’t feel like it is pining for money or attention. Quite the opposite. [It] feels as if it is happy in its own little rocking world. It’s making its own music, for its own pleasure. We’re just lucky enough to listen” (TJPL News).
Small Imperfections – Any project led by the great Magnus Karlsson (also of happydeadmen, The Charade, and The Britannicas) is bound to be full of jangly poppy goodness, and Small Imperfections do not disappoint! He’s joined by a cadre of popmeisters consisting of Stephan Johansson, Daniel Westlund, Christian Granquist, and Tove Hellerup, and together they make a joyous noise that fans of ‘80s Swedish pop and Brit pop will love! Their IPO showcase will feature 11 brand new pop songs, offering a tantalizing a hint of what we can expect to hear on their soon to be released album, Last Night in Sweden. We can hardly wait!!
Tejas
Timberly – While growing up in the underground culture of Swedish punk and metal, Timberly had goals of incorporating elements of pop, ambient and electronic that were often dismissed by his peers. With a voice that moves from buttery lows to shrieking highs, he explores gender and sexuality from a deeply frustrated POV. Incorporating fuzzy distortion, HUGE 80s drums and ambient shoegaze to create a soundscape, that is both nostalgic and boundary pushing, Timberly stands on the shoulders of legendary acts like The Cure, Cyndi Lauper and Placebo, as well as contemporary artists like Mitski, Poppy and Black Country, and New Road. Whether it be performing in high-heel gothic drag or busking behind a guitar, Timberly wants to challenge, but puts entertainment before anything else.
The Underwhelmed – An acoustic duo who blend classic influences such as Neil Young and Simon & Garfunkel with an indie rock edge to create something all their own on their recently released Edge Of Breakup album. “Two men with guitars might not be the hippest thing in 2025, but who cares…With strong songs, good vocals and enough small musical additions to the guitars, it manages to keep you interested all the way…Rooted in heartland music, it is also infested with a Nordic melancholy and a quite European feeling as well. It sounds as much as a Slovenian highway in a drizzling rain as a field in some American Midwest state” (Johan Erikson review).
International Artists
Meadowlake – A young indie band from Groningen, The Netherlands who’s single, “Dead Man on the Payroll”, was number one in the Dutch Indie Chart, and was also chosen as the Best Song of 2018. The band’s album, Wait For Me, has been called “Tranquility and arrested beauty in one” by none other than The New York Times! They returned to IPO Liverpool and join us for their first ever IPO Stockholm having honed their new, more stripped-down (but no less rockin’) sound as a three piece—inspired by bands such as Low, Daughter, and Big Thief. Definitely not your average indie rock/dreampop/shoegazer band…although fans of all those forms of pop and rock will dig both their latest album, where the mountain meets the sea, and their IPO showcase!
Mr Magpie – Is it a time-travelling mystic? A talking bird? No, thankfully for IPO, Mr. Magpie is the name of a fabulous band from Sheffield who blend pretty 12-string jangle with pastoral pop whimsy and unexpected chord and tempo changes. Their debut album, The Magical World of Mr. Magpie, was kicked off with a bicycle tour from Sheffield to Liverpool, where the band strapped their guitars on their backs and stopped to gig along the way. Their second album, The Fever Dreams of Mr Magpie, is finally available on vinyl and many fine streaming platforms. Fans of The Byrds and Fairport Convention will dig them!
The Restless Souls – Hailing from Atherstone, The Restless Souls play guitar driven British indie pop music, infused with soul. This talented band have previously played with a range of well-known artists such as Wham!, The Beat, The Dream Factory, and Paul Weller. They originally formed in 2019 to play IPO Liverpool, but unfortunately the pandemic nixed that, but they’ve recently re-formed with a new all-star line-up and two brand new songs, “The Future Starts Here!” and “Wasted Time,” to join us for IPOs Liverpool and Stockholm this year. We can hardly wait!
The Savage Hearts – From the wilds of Cavan, Ireland come this band of punk/blues/garage rock savages who will melt your face and your hearts with the power and energy of their songs and performance. Check out their recently released Radio Silence EP and come to their IPO Stockholm showcase prepared to dance!
