Featured IPO CD Artist: Sunshine Bloom

IPO Vol 20 CD Song: “Have Wings, Will Travel”

1) What was the reason you chose the song you did for the IPO CD?

“Have Wings, Will Travel” is just distilled Sunshine Bloom. It says in a few short minutes exactly who we are and what we are about. It’s fun, punchy and catchy. Plus it has loads of harmonies and a harpsichord. What more could you want!?!

2) If you could play your dream gig, which other three to four artists would be on the bill with you? They can be living, defunct, or dead.

That’s a tough question. The first would have to be Jellyfish, they have been a massive influence on us from the start. Plus the possibility of seeing them reform would be incredible! Another band who would be impossible but incredible would be Wings. To pick another couple, let’s go for The Replacements and Wilco…two great bands!

3) Which artists are you/your band most inspired by?

Well apart from the above, so many! To name but a few, let’s go with Ben Folds Five, Panic! At The Disco, ELO, John Mayer, The 1975 and Foo Fighters

4) What is your favorite part about playing IPO and/or being on the IPO CD?

Playing IPO Liverpool is one of the highlights of our year. It’s great to be surrounded by so many likeminded people who are down to play or simply enjoy the music. It never happens that we love all the bands who are on the bill with us except at IPO. We want to split ourselves in 3 so as not to miss the bands on the other 2 stages! It’s great to be a part of the IPO community too and we have made lots of great friends as a result of being involved.

5) How can people who fall in love with your song on the IPO CD get more of your music and find out about any gigs you’re playing?

The easiest way is via www.sunshinebloom.co.uk. We are on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram too!

IPO Vol 20 CD Song: “I Know A Girl”

1) What was the reason you chose the song you did for the IPO CD?

We chose the song “I Know a Girl” because we believe it is the most suitable for those who love power pop and the Rickenbacker sound, a typical sound of the bands you can see at the IPO. Besides, this song is dedicated to a very good friend of ours: the artist and designer Max Mala. It describes the way we see her. She is very sweet but she also loves feeling free. “I Know a Girl” is a song like Max: it has no age, it cannot be tagged and on top of that, it is a very good letter of introduction for THE VINYLOS because it synthesizes our sound…

2) If you could play your dream gig, which other three to four artists would be on the bill with you? They can be living, defunct, or dead.

They would be many! Definitely! We four have different influences although we all are inclined towards the sounds of the sixties. Would it be possible to play with Ray Davies, Jeff Lynne, Pete Townshend, Steve Crooper, Keith Moon, Charlie Watts or Sir Paul McCartney…? (We can count and we know they are more than four!!) It would be fantastic and we all would feel really happy!

3) Which artists are you/your band most inspired by?

Our inspiration comes from many of them: Sebastian loves Bach, classical music and good rock ‘n roll; Antonio is an enthusiastic jazz lover and also likes classical and rock music, he admires great drummers such as Keith Moon, Ringo… Miguel is an absolute Beatles fanatic; Sonia is a passionate sixties sound fan: The Kinks, The Zombies, The Who, The Move… We all like Beat, R&B, power pop and all that intense mixup of different trends and cultures. They are so many that we could be speaking about our favourite artists for ages!

4) What is your favorite part about playing IPO and/or being on the IPO CD?

It is an honour for us to take part at the IPO. It is like an acknowledgement to our work through the years. It made us very happy to know there are many people who can know about us and listen to our band -our music- outside our country. This is unbelievable.

5) How can people who fall in love with your song on the IPO CD get more of your music and find out about any gigs you’re playing?

Our music can be found on any musical streaming service or platform around the world. There are even online stores where you can find our physical LP vinyl record. We have a YouTube channel with many video clips, a webpage and a Facebook page. So everybody can access our information and news, or follow our tour dates. If anybody should be interested in purchasing our LP, all you have to do is get in touch with us through our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/TheVinylos which is daily checked and up to date. The same goes for those who want to contact us personally. You only have to type THE VINYLOS on your web browser and it will take you to all our pages!

We would like to thank David Bash his support to all the bands that took part at the IPO Festival, among which we have the pleasure to be included. We hope to see you son again on another festival David. All our love for Rina and you!

Featured IPO CD Artist: The Newds

IPO Vol 20 CD Song: “Freebasing Your Love”

1) What was the reason you chose the song you did for the IPO CD?

Well because it’s killer diller ha it’s a very special song to The Newds because since the inception before the band was finally together in 1999 (1995) I’d been a massive fan of Love and Forever Changes. Having watched Love twice before Arthur passed and twice since I have to say they are the greatest live band I’ve ever seen. So we were and are on a musical cloud 9 that Mike Randle agreed to let us cover his brand new track “Freebasing Your Love.” It means the world to us all and we thought we’d share the joy with the IPO vol. 20 CD.
