Artists From Boston

Corin Ashley – A singer/songwriter who for several years was the driving force behind Boston’s hyper mod-pop band, The Pills. Ashley’s first solo album, Songs From The Brill Bedroom, is a stripped down, organic and homegrown affair which falls halfway between Neil Finn and Neil Young. His latest, Broken Biscuits, is “…filled with deep rewards for Anglophiles and power pop fans” (Pop Matters); no wonder it found its way towards the top of a 2017 “best of” list or two.

Dave Charles – Brother of Boston musician/producer extraordinaire Brian Charles; if you come to Dave’s IPO show you can see that the apple hasn’t fallen far from the genes, as he delivers song after song of sparkling pop/rock!

Dave Finney and The Procrastinators – Featuring members of The Spicolis, Powderhouse, The Rotary Prophets and The Generous Poor, they play tasty original roots rock and “artisanal” covers that they make all their own. Fans of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Bob Seger, and CCR will dig their Procrastination Songs, Vol. 1 EP!

Glowbox – Like many great power pop bands, Glowbox is built on a foundation of two guitars, bass, and drums, with all four members of the band sharing an affinity for the classic melodic rock of the ‘60s and ‘70s. As such, their just released album, Your Call Is Very Important To Us, will appeal to fans of artists such as Squeeze, The Who, and The Knack, and is replete with harmonies. We can’t wait to see and hear them rock IPO again!

Satch Kerans – We’re glad to welcome this veteran of the Boston pop/rock scene back to IPO! His album, Elliott Street, has been described as “…a vibrant solo debut… a jangle-infused power-pop collection that recalls early Tom Petty and Dwight Twilley.” (Jonathan Perry, The Boston Globe) and yeah, one can certainly hear Petty’s spirit imbued in Kerans’ voice!

Key Of Caustic – Created years ago in the soul of lead vocalist/guitarist Jimbo Jones, yet birthed during the pandemic of 2020/2021, their mission is to write great power pop/punk rock music with ripping guitars, good hooks and memorable harmonies, and give it to the world. Think Led Zeppelin meets Green Day….or better yet, just come check out their IPO showcase! A debut album is due out later this fall, so watch for it!

Kid Gulliver – One listen to their new album, Kismet, is sure to put a smile on your face! The three boy/one girl combo take their inspiration from a wide array of influences – anything from British Invasion to new wave/punk and moody ‘90s indie-rock to opera! The result is at once both surprising and familiar, not to mention ridiculously catchy!

Arthur Nasson – A rock renaissance man with eight full-length albums and three EPs to his credit, Nasson seamlessly shifts from quirky Dylan-esque folk to art rock, jazz, and Beatle-esque power pop….sometimes all in the same song (several of which have been picked up by MTV)! Fans of ELO and The Cars will also dig this stuff! He’s been getting buzz from the likes of Pop Matters, Rock and Roll Globe, Goldmine, and The Boston Globe, and his song “Unglued” charted Top Ten in a dozen countries going up against new music from the likes of McCartney, Springsteen, and Tame Impala! Check out his IPO showcase to see and hear what all the buzz is about!

Michael Oliver & The Sacred BandYin and Yanxiety, Oliver’s latest album, is a touchingly personal collection of intelligent pop and rock songs reminiscent of Matthew Sweet, Marshall Crenshaw, R.E.M. and even The Archies! It is an emotional meditation on the past, filled with beautifully crafted songs that glisten, glow, and grandly unfold, with vocals lingering and lyrics resonating long after the songs have faded.

Kathleen Parks & Brad Bensko – Drawing from ‘50s and ‘60s pop, American Songbook standards, and much more, Kat & Brad channel and fuse these influences through two voices, a guitar, mandolin, and violin. Their debut album, simply titled Kat & Brad, and their IPO showcase are sure to put a smile on your face.

Richie Parsons – Bittersweet power pop with beautiful melodies and harmonies, with a just the right amount of country-fied jangle, is what you will find on Black Throated Blue, the latest disc from Parsons and his band. Fans of Marshall Crenshaw, The Replacements, The Posies, and The Zombies will eat this stuff up for breakfast!

The Stigmatics – They pride themselves in playing Boston Garage Rock and Proto-Punk, in the tradition of bands from the mid 60’s and early 70’s Pre-Punk era. Hook filled tunes with an in your face sonic assault!

U.S. Artists From Outside of Boston

The James Rocket – With chunky bass lines, counterpoint harmonies, quirky angular post-punk melodies, and even quirkier lyrics, these New Yorkers may just become your new favorite modern power pop band. Check out their recent Burnout album, and their IPO showcase!

The Midnight Callers – Whether you call it power pop, pop rock, alt-rock, or just pure and simple rock n’ roll, the Midnight Callers are it! Their debut album, Red Letter Glow, produced by none other than Kurt Reil of The Gripweeds, was released to critical acclaim about the time we last saw them in their hometown at IPO New York in 2019 ! We can hardly wait to see them again!

Kris Rodgers & The Dirty Gems – Known for years as “rock n’ roll’s secret weapon”, Kris ‘Fingers’ Rodgers has been a recording & touring sideman in top garage rock and power pop acts like The Connection, Scott Sorry, The New Trocaderos, Bullet Proof Lovers, and Kurt Baker Band, most of whom – like Rodgers – hail from the unlikely power pop/rock hot-bed of Portland, Maine. He took center stage with his 2017 solo full-length debut, Losing The Frequency, an album of ‘70s inspired arena rock gems replete with Rodgers’ bashing piano keys and raspy throated growl, and Baker pulling sideman duties on bass, and hasn’t looked back! Still Dirty, his latest release with The Dirty Gems, on Little Steven’s Wicked Cool Records, is a rollicking old school record that sounds like it could easily have been pulled from the vaults of Sun Records or Motown! How wicked cool is that!?
