China Syndrome – They’re back for their first IPO Vancouver appearance in ten years, and we can hardly wait! Their songs will remind you of everything you love about power pop: filled with catchy hooks, bouncy guitars, upbeat vocals and harmonies reminiscent of such greats as XTC, The Replacements, Badfinger, and Guided By Voices. Their latest album, Hide In Plain Sight, is a “must have” for fans of the genre. The Vancouver Sun called it “power pop done right… with a good sense of self-deprecation is always fun.” We couldn’t agree more; you NEED to hear this band!
 
The Early Beats – Another kind of Beatles band. Four veteran Vancouver music mavens play the early music of The Beatles. Performing select songs from the Cavern and Hamburg nightclub repertoires of 1960 to ’62, right up to the number one hits and deep album cuts of the Beatlemania years of 1963, ’64, 65′ and ’66. The Early Beats bring the harmonies, the gear, the energy to these amazing numbers. Get ready to sing along and dance!
 
Danny Echo – He’s been featured in Wail Magazine and draws influences from the greats like The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Beatles, Radiohead, Oasis, and U2; Danny Echo reverberates with all that is melodic, all that is catchy, and all that is rock n’ roll on their latest full-length release, Rock Bottoms Up, or their more recent single, “Zeros and Ones”, and barely tones it down for their acoustic EP, Unplugged and Unglued. Smoke machines, projectors, smoking guitars, and fire extinguishers (?!!) have become a part of the visual assault of Danny Echo gigs; he may even play some new songs at this year’s IPO, making the live show an experience not to be missed!
 
Tyler Graham – High school French teacher by day, musician by later the same day, Graham crafts catchy pop songs inspired by a wide array of artists, such as Sloan, Weezer, Joel Plaskett, Sam Roberts, Blue Rodeo, Fountains of Wayne, Wilco and others. His latest album, appropriately named Finally, is an homage to everything we all love about catchy hook and harmony filled guitar pop. C’est Magnifique!
 
Lazy Dynamite – Any band with a three-album project named Comic Book World is bound to pique our interest, and Lazy Dynamite does not disappoint! What started as a bedroom project has morphed into a live band to be reckoned with. Quirky, hooky, with sometimes silly / sometimes subversive lyrics and sneaky chord changes and influences ranging from blues to soft pop, folk pop, indie pop and Saturday morning cartoons!
 
James MacDanger (and the Chosen) – The latest project of Jamie MacDonald, who some of you will know as one of three brothers who fronted the awesome power pop band, The Orchid Highway! As one might expect, their performance at IPO last year was a feast for the ears, and we can’t wait to see and hear them do their thing again.
 
NOT Mentally Prepared – A Vancouver quintet who love nothing more than rocking hard and getting the audience to dance their booties off, so who could not love that!? In their original songs, featured on their latest album, Low Roller, they specialize in writing about a wide range of topics – the reality of life, love, funny things, weird things, obsessions, emotions, people, etc., but they are also known to throw down a few well-chosen covers. Fans of artists from The Rolling Stones to AC/DC to The Cure should check them out! The band features several members who have played IPO Vancouver in various projects right from the very beginning, and we’re glad to welcome them back!
 
Peach & Quiet – A partnership in music, romance and life, Peach & Quiet hails from the lush BC coast. Otherwise known as Heather Read and Jonny Miller, they immediately captivated listeners with their debut album, Just Beyond the Shine. The album topped folk and roots charts, earning international acclaim, including a coveted spot as BBC Scotland’s Record of the Week. Their 2023 sophomore album, Beautiful Thing, soared to #3 on national folk charts and remained on North American charts for over a year. Get ready to be swept away by their irresistible melodies and heartfelt lyrics, evoking a sound somewhere between Laurel Canyon and Americana, yet utterly original.
 
Jody Quine – A two-time Billboard charting vocalist/actor, Quine has toured the US several times, and appeared at IPO LA while working with that most ubiquitous producer of the LA pop scene…you guessed it…Fernando Perdomo! Her vocal haunting style ranges from silken sweetness to smoldering emotional power and will instantly draw you in and hold you captivated. Her music showcases both Quine’s range as a performer and depth as a songwriter, with themes of letting go, heartache, depression, love, and being true to yourself. Her recent single “Waiting On Me,” from her upcoming album, When The Music Comes, is gaining radio play in Canada and the US and was recently nominated for Song and Rock Performance of the Year! Her IPO show this year will be something special, as she’ll be joined on stage by Grammy nominated trumpet and flugelhorn player Jeff Oster, with Adam Farnsworth on keys for their last show together before Adam leaves Vancouver until next year.
 
Silent Martin – An alt rock trio originally formed in the Okanagan Valley, Silent Martin consists of Lorri Dar on lead vocals & bass, Jenny Beech on drums and KW Schroeder on guitars. Drawing from their collective rock, folk & jazz roots, Silent Martin’s dark groove takes the listener on a journey through moody sonic landscapes, alternating between aggressive and pastoral, dreamy and uplifting…or a bit of both at the same time. Check out their Last Day of Forever album and their IPO showcase to see and hear for yourself!
 
Star Collector – IPO is always thrilled to welcome these stalwarts of the Vancouver scene back to IPO, whether it’s been several years since they last played, or only one year! Their patented blend of decadent hooky Americana, British power pop and glam influences and powerhouse vocals will knock you off your feet! If you don’t already own them, any – and all – of their previous six CDs are a must have for any true power pop fan, and well-worth seeking out. Their latest disc, Everything Must Go!, features a veritable “who’s who” of co-writers (such as Jody Porter of Fountains Of Wayne and Ian Person of The Soundtrack Of Our Lives) and guest performers (such as Renee Suchy of The Pursuit Of Happiness, Paul Myers of The Paul & John and Derek MacDonald of The Bad Beats), and proves they’re just as good as ever…if not even better! It’s an album where the rock’s rockier, the pop’s poppier, and the mood’s moodier, veering into some previously uncharted territory as the band continues to challenge expectation, while still staying true to their mod-influenced rock n’ roll roots. They were an absolute hit when they joined us in May for their first IPO Liverpool appearance in 20 years, and we can’t wait to see and hear them do these songs live again back in their hometown!
 
Ashleigh Summer – Ashleigh Summer creates warm, acoustic feel-good folk-pop using “instruments you can take to the beach” – ukulele, cajón, banjo and other organic textures. With uplifting grooves, thoughtful lyrics and a healthy appreciation for life’s quirky corners, her music explores love, wonder, adventure, self-trust and the art of taking the scenic route. Described by Iggy Magazine (France) as “a warm folk-pop manifesto that celebrates the art of savouring the present moment,” Ashleigh’s latest album, Turtle in the Sun, was recorded on a working farm in the BC Interior, surrounded by orchards, walnut trees and some very pampered chickens. Now out in the wild, the album is an open invitation for slowing down, looking up and finding space to daydream.
 
Touch & Gos – Fronted by the most excellent Janis McKenzie, this garage-pop-punk band, active from the late 1980s to mid-1990s, are known to do the occasional reunion or two, so we’re absolutely thrilled that IPO will be one of them. Fans of artists such as The Buzzcocks, The Waitresses and The Pandoras will love them!

Frames In Motion – Main man Jack Shriner is a Seattle-based singer, guitarist, and songwriter. A musical omnivore, Shriner writes harmony-rich, tightly-crafted music that merges elements of dream-pop, folk rock, prog, and neo-psychedelia. Crude Koan, his second album with Frames In Motion, features songs crafted during the pandemic; the loss of free will and a quest for salvation in the natural world are both themes that permeate the sonic and lyrical landscape. Northwest Music Scene characterized their music perfectly: “Dreamy pop with a deep, dark interior.”
 
LipStitch – Comprised of four friends from Bellingham, WA, who began as a Joan Jett cover band, but then started writing and recording their own material, and have not looked back! Their recent Let’s Talk album is a little grit, a little glam and a whole lotta power pop/punk. If you like bands such as Go Betty Go, The Dollyrots or The Get Arounds, you owe it to yourself to check them out!
 
Small Yards – A fuzzy pop band from Seattle who carve out an aesthetic that rides the waves between power pop, garage rock, psychedelia, and post punk, and is rhythmically rooted and melodically driven, with catchy harmonic vocals. Their recently released self-titled album will appeal to fans of psych, garage and grunge from the ‘60s to the present, as well as hard-core power pop fans.
